Pogo - Nick Bertke

I remix stuff. This is the first thing you read when visiting his site. I say: understatement. You get much more than a simple remix of samples he collected from his favorite movies, games and other stuff that formed his twisted chopped up musical mind through the years. To be honest I was quite amazed how he handles samples in a crafty manner. Controlled by his skills the music ricochets through your brain which is already busy enough with the synced image editing. As I kept listening to his music I started to find a certain pattern and it became clear to me that he is the creator of a soundpallette that I have never heard before. Ok there I found out that more people are doing this stuff when browsing youtube, although not always with the class like Pogo. I'm not going to argue or discuss who was first with this kind of movie remixing. That’s stuff for history nerds to decide.

Pogo is the person who supports my theory that you can make music with any kind of samples as long as you have the art to glue them together in the right way to make it work. You could find it lame in using samples from famous movies, mix them and put them on youtube as they will get high ratings by definition? Haha try and see jealous guy, this stuff is gold. Next time when I hear the name 'Pogo' I will not link it to Digitalism anymore but to a fine artist who took me by surprise and is here to stay. On his blog you can read some personal issues and also fun stuff he encounters. All by all a very personal site. Like a friendly neighbor asking to have a sangria in his sunny garden. You can support Pogo by listening to his music, even buy some or download them for free due to copyright reasons (still with the option to pay want you want). Great concept. I feel ya Pogo. I got this cute little thing in my blogbox from Bishop originating from Buenos Aires. Dock Sud is a concept album which takes you back to future year 2072 (who said the world is gonna end in 2012?). I hear excellent computer programming simulating live recorded instruments, i like. Nice soundscapes combining classic ambient with spheric rock or coldwave as Bishop describes it. The album will release in feb 2012 but you can have a sneak preview below. Serious artwork too. You also can listen to his earlier work here, still i expect something intensive from Dock Sud. Got me flashbacking to the Blade Runner movie which I do not dislike.

Pinch & Shackleton - album review

Back on track with a blessing from two dubstep heavyweights going darkstep. Pinch is mostly known from his LP Underwater Dancehall already released on his own label Tectonic back in 2007 while Shackleton (founder of the former Skull Disco label) has a few more mordant tracks up his sleeve as well as his Three EP's release. No heavy bass drops on this collab but crafty beats and noises melted with percussion finesse. I guess the future is moving on into the apocalyptic year 2012, so don't be afraid in bringing Bristol's finest under the Christmas tree. Works on any present occasion i guess especially for yourself to keep. Tested on vinyl only, but also available on digital intercourses at the known monopolistic mp3 sites or at their original meacenas for this album, honest jon's records. Cheers mate.

Aeronaut (Jef De Corte) is a man of many talents with benchmarks all over the world. Nowadays he spends most of his time as a freelancer on making licensed illustrations and graphical designs for various of companies such as Disney. But if time is on his side he makes music and likes to share that with the rest of the world. So why not have a listen to the universe he puts in your ears? His most recent work “Requiem For The Faithless” contains beautiful sacral compositions to comfort the faithless people searching for their personal GOD nowhere to be found. He was inspired by a radio show of his friend Arol Wulf of which he took extracts to be used as glue for the orchestra playing on the cliffs of disbelieve. Have a visit to his myspace too. Cosmic Spring

Now I'm not always into trippy ambient aka trance reminding me of several too colorful evenings. However these guys: Cosmic Spring collective could be an exception to my self made up rule that every ambient CD with a dolphin on it scares the living shit out of me. They surprised me and made me swim together with the jellyfish which earn as much respect in ambient music as dolphins do. Even more their music is free downloadable, grab it here. I got this as a banner on my myspace page. Normally I don't check those things but hey what if I did. I was hesitating at a first listening, but somehow the music pulled me over to put it on my quality only premium ambient blog. No I'm not modest, just honest. So about Music AutOmatiK with their release 'Cupboard Replacement' just grab it while you can as I will not provide a backup. It is pretty interesting music, kept me listening all four songs and has enough twists to keep your ears spinnin'. Quality stuff. NK - Nino Lo Bue "Sleeep Spindles"

51beats releases a beautiful record from Nino Lo Bue. He's from Palermo and started in 2008 the NK project with the aim of combining the electronic and post rock of the north European mold. NK is an experimental music project that combines melody and noise, creating atmospheres that evolve dynamically, using keyboards, laptop, acoustics and electric guitars and Kaoss Pad. I'm very impressed with his sounds creating an unique warm feeling. He says he wanted to know how dreams would sound like and gave it a consience of its own. Like the Beatles used to be for a period they’re a blend of England and India which should taste something like a plum pudding with spicy curry on it. Indeed the sound is fresh yet surprisingly traditionally using authentic eastern instruments played by a full Indian orchestra combined with western tonalities. Electronica fills the gaps and moves this music right into the 21th century where it is there to stay. I found this guy on youtube tweaking with his Roland SP-404 creating some nice atmospheres using only a relative small set of samples. Looking further into his soundcloud page I was even more surprised to find very decent trip-hop ambient stuff which reminds me of DJ Food's early work. He's got skills that's for sure. So Intelligent Machinery wants to take it more low profile gathering kindered spirits who made the site grow over the years from 2001 to 2009. I bumped into this fine netlabel on monochromatica.com. Test Tube is in fact a netlabel with music from artists sharing their music to the community licensed under a creative commons license. This implies you can copy and distribute this music for free but cannot use it for commercial purposes. Sounds like a sweet deal you say? Indeed it is. And in fact this system works very fine and gives the chance to a lot of artists to spread their music in a group way fashion. Union makes force! Test Tube harbors about a hundred artists which you can check out here all individually. I would say enough music to mine for the whole summer. I picked up some songs of their latest released artists which should get you started. Praise to netlabels!
